How to Color-Block with Red

Red is a powerful color to wear, and I am proud to say I’m finally starting to get more and more adventurous with it. And I’ve learned that honestly, red is not that scary!! And actually super easy and fun to color-block with.

The easiest way to start is to get a couple true basics in your favorite red tone.

Personally I love a brighter red, with maybe just a hint of orange in it. The 3 basics I’ve acquired in the last 6 months or so that have eased me into wearing more red have been: a high-waisted trouser, a smaller weekend crossbody bag, and a more form-fitting cotton sweater with a little bell sleeve (perf for tucking in).

I’ve noticed that when I pair another color (and not just neutrals + denim) with my red pieces, I feel a LOT more fashion-forward and super classy.

The outfit just suddenly has so much more dimension and interest. But it’s important to note that when color-blocking, try to keep silhouettes and styles in the more classic, understated range so that the color-blocking can shine boldly on its own.

After having experimented with these 3 basics, today I’m sharing my favorite hues to pair with red to create a striking color-blocking look:

1. powder blue / lilac  +  red3-outfits-template-pops-of-red-powder-blue-lilac

2. mustard / camel  +  red3-outfits-template-pops-of-red-mustard
