Friday Five | Summer Lipsticks

PSA : National Lipstick Day is tomorrow. So to celebrate, I’m sharing my 5 favorite lipsticks for summer. I think summer is probably the best season to experiment with lipsticks because you may (or may not) have a darker complexion in these warmer days and find it easier to sport a brighter color you might not normally reach for. This is definitely the case for me. Summer is also a time where I want to wear the least amount of makeup possible – and mascara + lipstick is the best way to still look put together without actually trying too hard (especially if you choose to wear a more daring lip hue). Read on to find out why I’ve chosen these top 5!

1. Lancôme Matte Shaker Liquid Lipstick in Magic Orange, $22

You’re probably like ok….so what is that thing? And to be totally honest, the sponge applicator confuses me and I’m not really sure about the purpose of it. But it is very cute and the product itself I LOVE. It’s a matte formula that stays pretty well, I’ll give it a 7/10 for staying power. And yes it is orange, but I think pretty wearable especially with a tan. Also it kind of turns more hot orange-pink with time, and it’s surprisingly flattering. My favorite part about this lipstick is how lightweight it is – you’ll totally forget you are wearing it!

2. Clinique Almost Lipstick in Black Honey, $17

This lipstick is just so easy and flattering on seriously anyone. It’s fairly sheer, so it works nicely with your natural lip color and just sort of darkens it to a pretty, fresh, berry-bitten version of your own lips. I LOVE it, it’s usually what I always have on me for when I forget to put something on / something’s worn off and I forgot to bring it / I don’t feel like putting in all the effort that putting liquid lipstick requires (aka using a mirror).

3. Wet n Wild MegaLast Liquid Catsuit Lipstick in Flame of the Game, $5

Yes this is a pretty bright and scary color. I’m surprised I like it so much to be honest. Aside from the color, this is actually the best drugstore/affordable formula I’ve ever seen for liquid lipsticks. Staying power is like 8.5/10, and it doesn’t bleed or dry my lips out. Very impressive for a $5 price point! They really need to make more colors. I definitely reached for this orange because I feel as though orange is the lip color of the summer and I had to jump on that bandwagon. And I’ve learned orange is not as scary as it seems. This is a great cheap alternative to give orange a try!

4. Glossier Generation G Sheer Matte Lipstick in Leo, $18

This product is amazing, I really just need to get all the colors but it’s not in the budget right now. I ordered Leo, their warm brown color. It’s probably the most wearable and versatile lip product I own. The color is a nice brown wash on my lips. This is another great low maintenance lipstick, and the color options are fantastic. I really want to get the poppy red color next.

5. Kylie Cosmetics Matte Liquid Lipstick in Kristen, $17

A perfect summer strawberry color. This lipstick just screams summer to me! So quick review on Kylie Cosmetics liquid lipsticks: pretty expensive at $17 a pop and $29 for the lipstick/liner duo, BUT unprecedented staying power (9/10) and really beautiful color choices. I have way too many to count. I was lucky enough to save a few bucks and get one of the mini sets she released sometime last year, so you see the mini Kristen pictured above. But once it runs out, I definitely plan to snag a full size.

What lipstick will you wear tomorrow to celebrate National Lipstick Day?
