Hue of the Month | a Textured Mustard Yellow

Happy September! This month has already flown by so quickly for me – last Friday was my last day as Junior Graphic Designer at LaForce, an amazing boutique PR agency that I had the pleasure of working at for the last year. Last month I was presented with a career opportunity that I couldn’t turn down, and so I took it.

This week is my first week as Junior Graphic Designer at Lord & Taylor, one of the top department stores in the country and also the first to open a store on 5th Avenue here in NYC! I am part of the print design team, so I’ll be designing anything from posters in the store to catalogues/mailers sent out to customers. I am so proud to be part of this historic company that I have personally shopped at ever since I can remember. I am grateful for this opportunity and excited to see what’s to come from it!

The past couple of days have already felt autumn-esque here in NYC with cooler temps, partly cloudy skies, and the wind picking up a little. I have mixed feelings about this BUT am excited to start incorporating more fall colors into my wardrobe – like my Hue of the Month for September – a textured mustard yellow.

Overall I think mustard is pretty universally flattering. I’ve personally only truly liked mustard on someone when it looks really rich, thus why I added “textured” in the name. Chunky mustard sweaters and suede mustard anything will really amp up your autumn wardrobe. I also love it in a print – hence this pineapple skirt I’m sporting here (from Ann Taylor, sadly no longer available). It’s probably one of my favorite pieces in my closet; I don’t think I’ve ever loved a print + color combination more than this one. I think it’s actually the only mustard I currently have, but I intend to add more for fall. I just went into H&M and there is so much – this color is definitely trending.

Shop My Outfit: PINEAPPLE SKIRT (Ann Taylor) | GRAPHIC TEE (Brandy Melville) (Similar Here) | WHITE SNEAKERS (Adidas)  | CUFF BRACELET (Kendra Scott via Rocksbox) | SUNGLASSES (Quay)
I love it with black and white, charcoal gray, and denim. I think it pairs best with black and white patterned pieces – like b/w gingham, stripes, dots, etc. If you are inclined to add a color, I would stick to blues.

I hope you enjoy styling mustard as much as I do! Scroll below to shop some of my favorite mustard pieces to incorporate this beautiful hue into your wardrobe this month.
